About me

Introduction The most important aspects to me as an artist, is the play between the light and the shade and also the actual surface of the paintings. Sometimes my work has obvious landscape connotations, but it is primarily my emotional response that drives me as an artist. The majesty and humbling qualities of Nature and my reaction to it is fundamental.I always use oil, but I love to use other mediums to play along side. Graphite, pastels and varnishes are vital. The light, especially in the colder months is central to my work, I prefer dusk and dawn to bright daylight, the intrigue and the palette at this time of day feeds my choice of muted colours. Black is central, whether it’s a fine Graphite mark or a heavily painted stroke, its always there. In our very image charged world, my aim is to create an atmosphere of quiet and calm, this has always been and continues to be an important aspect of my painting. I suppose in one way mirroring the continual rhythm that underlies everything, the quiet constant of Time.
