Introduction | I am Elissa--a YA writer, a teacher, a mama, a wallflower, a word-eater, a poet, a terrible cook. I'm represented by Sarah Davies of Greenhouse Literary Agency, and my debut for teens, KISS THE MORNING STAR, will be published by Marshall Cavendish in Spring 2012, a fact that still pretty much makes me weak in the knees! |
Interests | Writing, Reading, Teaching, Parenting, Painting, Learning, Attachment Parenting, Breastfeeding, Co-Sleeping, Toddlers, Pre-Schoolers, Natural Family Living, Environment, Sustainability, Hiking, Camping, Backpacking, Being Silly |
Favorite Movies | I like movies that surprise me, that make me think and feel at the same time, that make me glad to cry instead of obligated to do so. I like quirky movies with good dialogue and memorable visuals. One of my favorites is Magnolia. |
Favorite Music | Music is very important to me, but the poet in me has got to enjoy not only the sounds but the lyrics as well. I like Bob Dylan, Ani diFranco, The Doors, Mike Doughty, and a million others with wonderful words and great music. |
Favorite Books | I read obsessively, indiscriminately. I read everything, from young adult literature that I recommend to my students to poetry written in Spanish. My favorite authors tend to write realistic fiction with a poetic edge--I enjoy writing that challenges me and makes the back of my neck tingle. Also, I seldom admit it, but I like books that make me cry if they can do it without being sentimental. |
You've got to make contact with the alien leader. How will you tell when the conversation is finished?
Well, I would guess we'd be communicating telepathically, so I would just *know* when we were done.
