Introduction Jude Calvert-Toulmin started writing professionally in the 1980s, first for the music press in London and subsequently for the rock-climbing and mountaineering press in Sheffield. She has been a full-time author since 2005 with her seventh novel, The Gold, a novel about creativity, love, obsession, addiction and Bruce Robinson, due for publication 2020. From 2013 to 2015 Jude hosted Northern Lights, a poetry and spoken word night in Sheffield and regularly performs her poetry and book excerpts at literary festivals including Off the Shelf. In 2013 Jude won prime-time Channel 4 show Come Dine with Me and in 2016 was runner-up in Come Dine Champion of Champions. Jude has mentored English students as an Associate Lecturer in Digital Marketing at Sheffield Hallam University and lives in Sheffield with her husband and rescue cats and chickens.
