| Introduction | Martha Hughes Cannon was an epic pioneer woman. She walked across the plains, went east again for college and medical school as a young woman, and returned to Utah to practice medicine. Some of her other adventures include raising her family while continuing to work as a doctor, a stint of exile in Europe with her infant daughter, and becoming the US's first ever female state senator. (Several other people ran for that seat, including her husband.) The Martha Hughes Cannon Society is dedicated to LDS women in science, technology, engineering, medicine, and mathematics. |
