| Introduction | My name is Mike and I am an overweight, middle-aged, husband and father of two, ER nurse who has discovered a passion for cycling. My brother got me back on a mountain bike a few years ago, then I followed him across the gap to roadbiking and bought for myself an aluminum internet bike which now has over 5000 miles on it. In January 2009, that bike was relegated to the trainer when I sold my motorcycle in order to go carbon. I bought a Specialized Roubaix and it is quite possibly the most comfortable bike I could imagine. I try to get in lots of miles and enjoy the social gathering of group rides, especially the fundraisers. But the one spectre that has haunted me is Mt. Mitchell. I had attempted and failed twice to summit, but refused to surrender. On May 24, 2010 I was able to summit Mt. Mitchell in 10:03:02. Be blessed, be safe. |
