Introduction I taught for years on the university level, but my career was primarily in film. “Every year without knowing it I have passed the day when the last fires will wave to me and the silence will set out, tireless traveller, like the beam of a lightless star. Then I will no longer find myself in life as in a strange garment.” --W S Merwin
Favorite Movies I'm a fan of the classics: "Citizen Kane, " "Grand Illusion, " "The Rules of the Game, " etc. My main favorites these days are often small, usually foreign films that can be extraordinary, though produced on a budget the size of the phone bill of Hollywood's usual car-chase, shoot-em-up, multi-million dollar epics. Check out "The Death of Mr. Lazarescu, " "Tulpan" and "Alexandra, " as examples. "But nothing happens; there's nothing going on in those films, " is the cry of some. My answer: "There's something going on in every frame. You've just got to be able to spot it."
Favorite Music I could toss around names like Miles Davis and a number of other similar geniuses, but the truth is, if I was stuck on a desert isle and was permitted a collection of music of just one composer, it would have to be that Salzburg Slasher, Wolfgang Amadeus.
Favorite Books Too many to list. I try to read at least some of the Man Booker Prize winners. I'm a fan of audio books: "reading" books while jogging.

Lionesses have no manes. How do they know when they've grown up?

My answer: lionesses know they're grown up when the "mane man" of the pride -- i.e., a lion -- comes calling, murmuring seductively "taffeta phrases and silken terms precise." ("Love's Labour's Lost." V.ii)
