Introduction I am a R.N. who ironically works with children with Developmental Disabilities. My husband is a hard working Engineer who spends the greater portion of his day commuting to and from work. Elizabeth entered the world 3 1/2 months(25.3 weeks)early weighing 1 1/2 lbs. She came home 5 days before her due date on oxygen, heart monitors and caffiene. We originally began this blog to keep our family and friends updated on her progress during her NICU stay. Little did I know then that we would later be writing about the trials and tribulations of raising a child with special needs. Elizabeth is not unscathed by her prematurity. Her early arrival has left her with a hearing impairment Auditory Neuropathy. Elizabeth has ataxic and dystonic symptoms which most likey are related to her early arrival. As her specialists do not fully agree on her diagnosis she has not 'officialy' been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy but we know it is to come. As time goes by we continue to see the scars prematurity has left on her. What continues to amaze us daily is Elizabeth's perseverance and her happy outlook on life. She inspires us and makes us proud to be her parents.
