Introduction That extra "D" on the end of ABC is no mistake! ABCD stands for American Born Confused Desi and it's a term given to someone like me who is of South Asian origin (Indian in my case) but brought up in the US. The ABCD’s of Cooking chronicles my adventures cooking American Born Confused Desi recipes, which are all vegetarian and Indian influenced. I was taught most everything I know in the kitchen by my South Indian mother and North Indian father. I've also studied nutrition and cooking techniques at the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York. On this site, you will find my family recipes that have been passed down from generations (i.e. my Great Aunt's garam masala) as well as my own recipes which mix Indian technique with local ingredients (i.e. garlic scape curry) and other cuisines I have discovered while living in the US and traveling abroad (i.e. mole chutney). I update the site with upcoming dates for the stuff that I do when I'm not blogging - I host an online cooking show and a supper club featuring Indian-inspired cuisine. I also teach cooking classes and sell Indian street foods (sometimes yummy Indian tacos!) at events and artisanal markets in Brooklyn.
