Introduction Combining a love of the northern landscape and wildlife with a desire to tell a story is the motivation behind my current work. Living in Muskoka allows me to be influenced by the seasonal changes in light and weather – a perfect setting for something unexpected. Watercolours have a certain luminous dreamy quality which fascinate me. The way that they merge and fuse together to create atmospheric colours and textures seems to suit the images I want to create. After many doodles and sketches I finalize my drawing on watercolour paper allowing a more intuitive painting technique. Exploring expressive line with pen and ink or watercolour is something I have done in recent work. Another technique I like to establish is to create lost and found edges as I feel they add mystery and depth to a painting. The last few years I have been exploring the landscape of Muskoka and Algonquin in watercolour. My recent art has been influenced by this work but I have also been drawn back to my training in book illustration. Dreaming up characters, wildlife, the occasional mythological creature and creating slightly surreal situations add challenges and intrigue to my creative process.
