| Introduction | It was the first day of summer vacation that my sister and I had been waiting for. We got to sleep in, plop on the couch and watch our favorite tv shows....WRONG! Mom without saying a word, calmly reached behind the tele, unplugged it, and carried it out to her car as if she had does this everyday. My sister and I looked at each other half in shock and half wondering what each other did to get us in trouble. Fact was, is Mom wasn't mad, nor were we in trouble. She explained to us as she handed us a flashlight, and a chart of the constellations, "that there is a whole big world out there, and you find it by letting a television steal your imagination". She was right, by the end of the summer without tv, my sister and I had experienced more fun by using our imaginations, thinking creatively and discovering how amazing the big world is. That was a long time ago, but I haven't changed much from that lesson, my wonderful Mom gave to us. Thank you Mom, whenever I look at the night sky and all the constellations, I remember that summer, and still smile. |
