Introduction Gavin was educated at Keble College, Oxford. There he began his studies on Janáček and the cultural history of the Austro-Hungarian Empire from the Enlightenment, through its collapse to the establishment of the various independent states. He has since written, lectured and broadcast for a number of opera houses, orchestras and festivals. He has written for Opera, Opera Now, Classical Music, The Guardian and Gay Times. Mr Norris Changes Trains is a homage to the great Christopher Isherwood and others like him who observed European culture as the world began to change. London in the naughties may not quite have the verve of Berlin in the 1930s or turn of the century Vienna, but the sands are shifting and it's time to proclaim again that "I am a camera".
