Introduction | My husband Pete and I have been sailors for many years. (Him more than me as he is considerably older than me!!) Pete has already built a 38ft Ferro Cement Yacht which we have sailed extensively up and down the East Coast and over to Holland, France and Belgium. The idea of buying a barge came out of the wish to escape the rat race and have money to enjoy our retirement in a few years time. Although we could have lived on the yacht and sailed away, we wanted something a bit bigger and more 'house' like. There also had to be room for Alfie, the dog, and spare beds for any of our kids (all grown up) to stay. Unfortunately, like everyone else, we have had trouble selling the house, so what ever barge we bought had to be cheap! Bonnie came along through pure chance and was just what we wanted. The bonus was that she was at a price we could afford. My husband is a builder and intends to use his skills on the barge, as well as learning a few new ones along the way. As an English teacher I am only good for my cheap labour! We cannot wait for the day that we can move on to our new 'home'and sail away into the sunset! |
