| Introduction | Originally educated in political theory, Werve has worked as a journalist in Southeast Asia and Europe, covering grassroots responses to globalization. In 2002, he joined the Center for Public Integrity, a public interest watchdog, where he worked as a reporter, graphic designer and project manager, including work on the 2002 and 2004 Global Integrity pilots. His work for the Center documenting the political influence of the oil and defense industries has been recognized by the Society of Environmental Journalists, Society of Professional Journalists, Investigative Reporters & Editors, and the Online News Association.
