Introduction My background should be a help in writing this blog. Though not an expert in anything, I have training and interests that converge in a somewhat unusual way. I'm a resigned and dispensed Catholic priest who worked in Kansas City, Mo. and Bolivia. I have an M.A. in religion and have tried to keep up on theology. I'm also interested in science. I have an MS in Journalism from Iowa State University, where I taught journalism/mass communications. I was a reporter and editor at the Des Moines Register, and for 10 years was the newspaper’s medical/science writer. I completed the science writers’ program at the Marine Biology Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA., and was a fellow at the Knight Center for Specialized Journalism at the University of Maryland. The most valuable lesson I've learned from both theology and science is how much I don't know. I have a wonderful wife, Amparo, and two amazing children, Sean and Maureen.
