Introduction I started running in 2002, during my sophomore year of college. One of my very first runs was on the trails and in the neighborhoods behind my alma mater, Marymount University. Most of the running I did then was on a treadmill in the university's gym, an out-and-back on Glebe Road, and a three-mile loop around American University. My running goals then were much different than those of today. I ran then to get in shape. I run now to stay in shape and to see how far and how fast my body can take me--in marathons and perhaps, one day, beyond. In 2003, I completed my first road race; then I completed a few more; then I lost interest in running altogether. I started running again in 2005—after graduating from college—simply because I had nothing better to do. Since then, I have completed four marathons. In February 2011, I completed the Austin Marathon in a PR of 3:37:42.
