Introduction Willkommen! I am one of the co-editors of BBZ, which is a place for high school, middle school, and college students to write about books and reading. Like Susan, I teach literature at Texas A&M University-Commerce, specializing in both American literature and children's and adolescent literature. Please note that the opinions I express are mine alone and are not meant to represent my employer, Texas A&M University-Commerce. Before I went to graduate school, I worked as the director of a middle school library. I was given about $10,000 a year to buy books. I was in heaven. Every week I poured through the leading review journals, reading about all the fabulous books being published for adolescent and young adult readers. And then I got to buy them. And read them myself! Yes, I was in heaven. And then, many years later, after I became a professor, I found myself (surprisingly) back in the world of adolescent and young adult literature. Now I get to read it and think about it and teach it. And while I don't have $10,000 each year to spend on books, I'm still pretty happy!
