Introduction Hi! Welcome to my blog. I am a mixed media artist who lives in Murrieta, California. I work in acrylics, watercolor, pastel, charcoal and other water and drawing media. My main subjects are abstracts, abstract landscapes, florals and gardens, equine abstracts and pet portraits. I love to use color! I try to incorporate the three C's in all of my work - color, contrast and composition! Most of these paintings are for sale. Please check with me for availability and prices if not posted. Interests My interests include my horses - two Peruvian horses. I have three dogs - a Standard Poodle, Terripoo and a Cockapoo. My husband and I watch the history channels all the time. I enjoy classical music, rock and roll and country music standards. A big favorite of mine is still the Big Bands of the 40's and the glorious singers of that era. My parents exposed us (my bother and sister) to all types of music. We also went to the ballet, symphony and opera while we were growing up in Portland, Oregon. Portland has a wonderful symphony! I also was exposed to lots of art. My parents took us to Europe as kids to visit relatives in Sweden and went to Paris, London and Stockholm and saw the great art at a young age. I graduated with a degree in Journalism from the University of Oregon. I was a newspaper advertising rep for many years. Before and after Journalism School, I studied art as well. I took lots of different classes - design, basic drawing, life drawing, printmaking, oil painting, watercolor and weaving. I took a life drawing class in the evening at the University of Washington after I moved to Seattle for my first job at the Seattle Times. I was so intimidated at first. What did I get myself into I thought at the time. As it turned out, it was the best thing I could have done. I learned so much and to my surprise, I loved it! It was so challenging and ultimately rewarding. I took classes in design, more architectural in focus, and that was also challenging. Surprisingly, I never took classes with pastels, which is what I work with now. I like using my hands to draw, scribble and dab on the paper. I love the immediacy of watercolor, acrylics and pastels.
