Introduction | Certain subjects or objects attract me. They seem to resonate with my sensibility. It could be an attraction of a certain look, a form, or even the shadow the form creates. I want to make paintings that evoke a delight in remembering. The scale of the subjects or objects in my paintings are much larger than life. I found the larger scale gave the objects more presence. The everyday objects in my paintings are imbued with my own sense of family, personal history and a sense of the sacred within the everyday. I found text and pattern added a visual complexity to the objects. My response to text and pattern is not to its decorative value alone but to its potential as another level of meaning or story telling. It speaks of a subtext within the work. Objects have very specific associations for people but whatever narratives others see in my paintings it is not the motive behind them. My paintings simply give me a voice to tell my stories. |
