Introduction I'm a transplanted Dutch person who has moved many times over the years, living in Germany and England as well as in different parts of the US. Always happy to return to the NY area!
Interests Cooking: best onion soup, based on the recipe of the Savoy Hotel. 5 medium onions, chopped; 4 tablespoons unsalted butter; 1 small bulb fennel, chopped; 3 leeks, chopped; 6 cups chicken stock; 1/2 cup cream; 1/4 cup port; salt, pepper. Sweat the onion in butter until transparent. Add the fennel, leek, stock, salt and pepper and simmer for 25 minutes, until tender. Puree the mixture in a blender, and return to the stove. Stir in the cream, add port and adjust seasonings. To serve: ladle soup into plates and pour in an extra drop of port.
Favorite Movies After a lovely dinner on Thanksgiving (for once I was not the one cooking) we lit a fire and watched "Room with a View".
Favorite Music Classical, Jazz, things my son recommends.
Favorite Books On our trip to the Pacific Northwest and Alaska I read Michelle Richmond's "no one you know", and I liked it so much that I bought her earlier book, "The year of fog" before I even finished the first one. Otherwise I have "Nature Girl" by Carl Hiaasen lying around, and am finished "Three Cups of Tea" and Richard Ford's "Women with Men".
