| Introduction | I am a painter specialising in abstract landscapes. Inspired primarily by the rural beauty of the Surrey Hills and my native Hampshire, the paintings draw on both observation and memory, becoming as much a record of my emotional engagement with the landscape as a visual representation of the countryside itself. I am not seeking to document precisely what I have seen, but to produce a gestural response to what I have experienced. Paintings are usually produced in the studio, and sometimes outdoors. They will often draw on sketches produced in situ, but rely more on the unreliable nature of memory. Most paintings are mixed media, including but not limited to oil, acrylic, ink, house paint, enamel, charcoal, pencil and pastel. Surface texture is an important element in every painting. Each picture develops in its own time, with some being created in a single session and others being reworked multiple times. Unless otherwise stated, all paintings are available to buy.
