| Introduction | hi! I’m shireen thomas (nee jacob). just for the record: i am an indian american syrian christian. (how’s that for confused genetics?) and realizing that the way to a woman’s art is thru a fat salary, i joined advertising. i did a post graduation in commercial art (now known as graphic design) from j.j.school of art, bombay (now mumbai) & madras college of arts & crafts, chennai. i picked up the paintbrush when I was seven, and had an art attack (still haven’t recovered). six months in hta – hindustan thompson associates (now jwt – j.walter thompson) as an artist. i was a stick up woman. four years as visualizer in jaison advertising, madras (now chennai). four years as art director in ogilvy & mather (now ogilvy), madras (now chennai). six years as creative supervisor in hta (now jwt), madras (now chennai) is there life after jwt? yes. i quit India five days after i quit jwt to come to virginia (for lovers). here I am, amidst 1000 artists from around washington dc participating in art-o-matic 2008 – my first exhibition of paintings. |
