Introduction Did I read one fairy tale too many? As a child, I was always haunted by what might have happened after-- were those characters really happy? As a result, now I find myself considering questions of happiness (and dispair) for characters in my stories. I've been very fortunate to be published. I also teach at Chatham University in the MFA-- Writing for children and young adult program. Chatham is in Pittsburgh, PA. Discovering myself as a writer has been an absolute joy. A pain, too, as rejection isn't any fun...but the delight of discovering a character truly is a daring journey. And one I hope to take again and again and again. I have two picture books published by Clarion--"Cowboy Sam and those Confounded Secrets," and "The Foot-stomping Adventures of Clementine Sweet." Both of these tall tales were co-written with my friend Kathy Combs who lives in Texas. Our fabulous illustrator is Mike Wohnoutka, who lives in Minnesota. My next book is, "The Ride--The Legend of Betsy Dowdy." It is with Atheneum and will be out in spring of 2009. www.kittygriffin.com
