About me

Location coast, Oregon, United States
Introduction Born in Corvallis, Oregon, I completed two BFA degrees in visual arts and a BA in art education at the University of Washington, cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. My metal work and ceramic sculptures were shown in galleries and museums throughout the west. My husband (since 1974) and I and a Saluki named Yeti live on property that has been in my family since 1911. Our grown sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren live in Portland. Though I no longer run, I was a passionate runner for years, completing in races and the Hood to Coast. My writing has earned an Oregon Literary Arts Fellowship, Arts & Letters fellowship, Soapstone residency, Pushcart nomination, and publication in journals such as CALYX, Raven Chronicles, StringTown, Pacific Magazine, Work Magazine, Ink-Filled Page, The MacGuffin, Mused, RAIN, North American Review, StringTown, VoiceCatcher, the Brevity blog, Weave, and two essay anthologies—one on running and the other about race in America. I completed the Pacific University MFA program in fiction in 2007. In retirement I weave, quilt, walk the beach every day, and continue teaching college classes on the north Oregon coast.
