Introduction Alvaro Amat, Mexico City, 1968. Freelance artist, architect, designer and writer living in Chicago. Exhibition Design Director at The Field Museum of Natural History. Studied architecture and fine arts in Madrid. Obtained BA in Architecture, (Universidad Nuevo Mundo, Mexico) and a BFA in Sculpture (The School of the Art Institute of Chicago). In his 20 years of architectural practice, he completed buildings in Spain and Mexico. Collaborated with LLano & Saavedra in Madrid, Miguel E. Sanchez (Tectonik), Jose Luis Ezquerra, Luis Barragan R., Raul Ibarra , Ernesto Ramirez and Alberto Rigoletti (Rigoletti Casa de DiseƱo) in Mexico City. His work as an artist includes sculpture, video installation, stop-motion animation and non traditional visual narratives. Working within the blurring boundaries between design and art, he uses metals, clay, resins, engraving, etching, drawing, video, multimedia and websites, in the exploration of the complex intersections and connections between reality and knowledge. Professor of art and design theory for architecture, graphic design, industrial design, marketing, advertising and cinematography in Mexico City.
