Introduction I started cycle commuting in north Manchester November 2008. This blog was began shortly after to vent my frustrations with UK cycling provisions and ignorant road users as well as record my improving fitness.

A motorist since passing my driving test age 17 in 1984. I passed my motorbike test in 2002. I also married in 2002 so was never allowed a motorbike! I am still a keen driver but my wife and I have made the choice to run one car only and make use of public transport and cycling for short journeys wherever possible.

I am not interested in cycle racing or competing, rather finding the saddle provides a great way to experience the country at a reasonable pace. I have previously cycled the C2C and in 2010 completed the 355 mile Pennine Cycleway in aid of the Marfan Trust, raising over £2000.00.

I intend to do more cycle touring as time allows and recently began the British Cycle Quest which provides a great incentive to see parts of the UK you would otherwise pass by. I also recently bought a good quality, secondhand Marin mountain bike in addition to my touring bike. I don't see myself getting a titanium road bike any time soon though!
