Introduction Grew up as a studio singer, did many movie soundtracks, commercials (on and off camera, either acting or singing), backgrounds for recording artists, Disney albums, own record w/ my sister in disco era, studied music composition at Dick Grove for years, was a professional songwriter...BUT fell in love w/ Science at early age... Graduated from Occidental College in Biology, added minor in math and engineering later from other colleges and did further studies at Caltech. Worked w/ owls at Caltech, did a 19 year immersion study w/ Barn Owl named Wesley, studied close to 100 wild nests as well.

Favorite Movies Secret of Roan Inish, Never Cry Wolf, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Star Wars trilogy from the 70s and 80s, first Indiana Jones, Romancing the Stone, Whale Rider, Dune, Anne of Green Gables, Pride and Prejudice (A&E), Band of Brothers and The Pacific (HBO), Life (Discovery series?), March of the Penguins.
Favorite Music Traditional Irish Music, Van Halen, some classical like Beethoven, some heavy metal, some funk.. but by far the best is traditional Irish music, fiddle in particular (Cait Reed, Paddy Canny, Ciaran Tourish)
Favorite Books Never Cry Wolf, In the Shadow of Man, My Side of the Mountain, Favorite authors: Marc Bekoff, Sy Montgomery (Birdology, the Good Good Pig), Lynne Cox(Grayson, Swimming to Antarctica), Jeff Guidry (An Eagle Named Freedom), Berndt Heinrich (The Mind of the Raven), Don Kroodsma (The Singing Life of Birds), Jon Krakauer (Into Thin Air, Under the Banner of Heaven)..other books: Number one Ladies Detective Agency series, for kids; Scientists in the Field series, other nonfiction; Three Cups of Tea

What if animals are as intelligent in their own way, and as emotionally complex and deep as we are? We may be right on the cusp of a whole new way of seeing animals and understanding them. We're finally starting to see that the intelligent life we've been searching for on other planets is living right here among us, and we have so much to learn from them!
