Introduction Wife to the most marvelous man in the world and mother of four beautiful, amazing living children - and one little boy born still at 39 weeks on April 1, 2009. I'm also a doula, birth photographer, psychologist and writer. This blog chronicles my “Inanna Journey” to the underworld and (I have hope) back again. In one of the oldest stories every recorded, Inanna, the Sumerian goddess of love, travels to the underworld, and is eventually stripped of everything she owns or holds dear as she makes her way through the darkness. When she finally faces her dark sister, Erishkigal, Inanna is hung like a carcass of meat on a hook and stays there for three days that feel like an eternity. Inanna is eventually delivered again into the light, but her journey contains the symbolic acceptance of death as the continuation of life. This is my journey forward, through the dark grief of mourning the death of my son, William George, toward a future where I might again lift my face to the warmth of the sun… and maybe even glimpse a rainbow...
