| Introduction | I'm a writer. OK, so I spend much of my life doing other things but the one that matters is the writing. I wrote my first novel when I was fourteen (I didn't get out much!) and now I write fiction for women's magazines. I'm also working on a YA novel. Long ago, when publishing felt like an impossible dream that I couldn't admit to normal people, I used to attend writing groups which felt a little like AA: 'Hi, I'm Inkpen and I'm a secret writer. I can't seem to stop, no matter how I try ...' Now, virtual writers' groups and blogs have taken over from that hall in Red Lion Square. Well, it saves cycling across London in the rain. And the willow? It's huge, it's outside my window and it's a helpful distraction when the words don't flow. There was a pear tree outside my window when I was a teenager writing historical fiction so times change, the tree changes, but the writing ... is still here. |
