Introduction When I was at university I did a creative writing course, in which I wrote an epic family tale set in the Deep South, a folktale about a mother and a baby and some other stuff. When it came to my turn to review with the professor, he said, "Oh yes, Katie, you're the one who writes about food!" I thought, "great, this guy doesn't even know who I am - I haven't written anything about food!" But he knew who I was - we looked through the stuff together and it was true that what stood out the most were the descriptions of the food, what people ate, the cooking, and all the action took place at mealtimes. I then realised that I'm totally obsessed with food: I sit at my desk at work dreaming up recipes for dinner, I send Blondini long shopping lists throughout the day, and I'm pretty much planning the next meal (or two) as I sit down to eat. I intend to include recipes I have found from cookbooks, the internet, or wherever - I will be credit these to the author but I will add my own amendments and tips in red. There are also my own inventions and recipes from my mum and grandma (the two best cooks I know) - feel free to try any of these and please let me know how you get on!
