Introduction The line, "Stay together, learn the flowers, go light" from the book *Under the Tuscan Sun*, by Frances Mayes, has stayed with me and I have grown to appreciate the value of this as a life philosophy. In 2008, we embarked on an adventure. We left behind jobs, friends and the city we loved. We left behind the ease of take-out ordering and pre-packaged foods. We left behind carefully coordinated schedules that involved day care for our child. We left behind a pace of life that was consuming too much and returning too little. We moved 1000 miles from our home in the Boston area in order to give our children a more organic childhood that is influenced every day by the seasons, a slower pace, and by me, their new stay at home mom! Each day provides definition, texture and flavor as I cook up my new role from scratch. I teach writing courses and most of the blogs I follow throughout the year are those written by students. I enjoy them because more often than not, I'm reading words of writers who don't consider themselves writers. But they are. My blog is about about uprooting, trying to grow in new dirt, and finding peace.
