Introduction | My Mom taugh me and my sisters how to sew as soon as we could sit at the sewing machine. She made most of our clothes out of necessity. In typical mid-centry fashion she was busy running the house and taking care of the five of us kids and my Dad but she also worked outside the home for as long as I can remember. I always enjoyed sewing but making my own clothes didn't seem all that much fun. Even though I could follow a pattern, the stuff never seemed to fit the way it should. All that tayloring was such fussy, hard work that hardly seemed worth the effort. So I put aside the sewing machine until I got my first apartment. That's when I discovered that making curtains would save money. Now this was my idea of fun! In 2000 my sister Dutchy introduced me to quilting. We signed up for a class together then join some friends on a bus trip to Lancaster County PA. I collect a bunch of fat quarters to use in that class including two I won in one of the games on the bus ride. Without even taking a class I know I'd be hooked! My first quilt was "Scrappy Stars" done in traditional red, white (cream) and blue. |
