Introduction | After producing a brood of a son & two daughters and having decided to turn my back on academe & tax law, once my babes were past the nappy stage, I decided to teach myself the craft of jewellery design. My brood had taught me to be a mother & I’ve always spent as much time I can drawing, making marks & designing, so I reasoned that my brain was possibly still open to new ideas. But WOW! Little did I realise that a whole new environment was there to be explored - the world of Wearable Art & all its satellite moons. So, some five years ago, thus began my pursuit of ‘the art of curiosity…‘ Being creative is an essential part of life for me. I’ve suffered from depression since the age of 16 - indeed I'm a diagnosed bipolar babe - and in my opinion, creative expression is as important in helping my condition as all my meds & any other therapies I have tried. Keeping a creative journal for example, helps me to understand myself & my bipolarity. The act of making marks channels stress into meaning. A sense of humour helps me too - there’s a large seam of irony in my being and Dorothy Parker is Queen! |
Interests | Painting, sculpting, drawing, reading, writing, poetry. Creating jewellery & other strange & extraordinary things. Living & loving my children my man & my dog. Remodelling my strange but intriguing house. And then there's the extreme importance of laughter, the arts & the recognition of emotions. I am also trying to coax out of my brain as many creative ideas that I may have in the hope that this will help my meds and I to manage my bipolar. |
Favorite Music | A long eclectic list. I know I will forget so many of my favourite companions but here's a sample. For instance there's Bach, Mozart, Haydn, John Taverner, Massive Attack, Radiohead, Bjork, Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet ( let's include all French chanson), Glenn Miller, Burt Bacharach, R&B, Talking Heads, The The, Propaganda, Badly Drawn Boy, Lemon Jelly, Garbage, The Cure, Amy Winehouse, Vivaldi, Portishead, Jesca Hoop, Laura Marling, Joanna Newsom, Goldfrapp, Elbow, Kate Bush, Florence & The Machine, The Doors, Classical Guitar & so many more! |
Favorite Books | My list is overwhelmingly long. Here are just a few of the writers I admire - you have been warned about the length! A.S.Byatt, Margaret Atwood, Toni Morrison, Carol Shields, Muriel Spark, Penelope Fitzgerald, Sarah Waters, Julian Barnes, Flaubert, Peter Ackroyd, William Trevor, William Blake, Anthony Trollope, Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde, Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, Katherine Mansfield, Virginia Woolf, Vita Sackville West, Frances Partridge, F Scott Fitzgerald, Evelyn Waugh, John Fowles, Umberto Eco, Albert Camus, A A Milne, Truman Capote, Dorothy Parker Carson McCullers, Djuna Barnes, T.S.Eliot, Auden, Marianne Moore, Elizabeth Bishop, Robert Lowell, e e cummings, Wilfred Owen, Philip Larkin, Dylan Thomas, Katherine Jamie, U A Fanthorpe, Carol Ann Duffy, P D James, Wendy Cope, Stevie Smith, Thomas Hardy's poetry & The Bard. I've got a lot more - would you like another list? Thought not! |
